What is the Life Story Project?
Please note due to Funding issues, we are currently unable to operate our Life Story Project. This page is intended to showcase the work of the Project throughout its lifetime and the difference it made to the lives of the young people involved.

The Life Story Project was funded by the Lottery Community Fund between April 2019 and August 2024. The Project worked with Young People aged 11-22 who were in Care, had left Care or who had been Adopted, and who had questions about their lives and experiences, in the past and in the present.
The project worked to help these young people to fill in the gaps in their personal history and to talk about their memories, both positive and negative.
The Life Story Project will:
- Worked with young people on a one to one basis to provide them with relevant information about their birth family.
- Supported the young person to explore and understand their early life and in care experiences.
- Facilitated opportunities for the young person to build on their self-esteem.
- Helped the young person make sense of their identity.
The Project will also:
- Include Carers & Adoptive Parents to support their young people during the sessional work.
- Assist Carers & Adoptive parents in their understanding of the young people in their care.
- Engage with Birth parents, previous Carers and significant others to gather important information.
Life Story work provided each young person with information about his/her past and helped him/her to understand this information through:
- Creative activities
- Visits to significant locations
- Games
- Arts & Crafts
- Digital media
The Life Story worker completed a coherent narrative from the information gathered for and during the work, and produced a record of the work in the format of an individual bespoke Life Story Book.
